Lance Berkman pulls a semi-Billy Madison, goes back to school for kinesiology degree

Berkman goes back to school for kinesiology degree

Back to school ... back to school ...

Former MLB All-Star Lance Berkman notched more than 1,900 hits and maintained a .293 lifetime average over 14 seasons in the bigs. He made six All-Star appearances, received MVP votes in seven seasons and won a World Series with the Cardinals in 2011. One thing he didn't do? Earn his degree.

Back when his career was still in its infancy, Berkman joked that he had majored in "eligibility" while at Rice University in Texas. Now, at 38, Berkman is back at Rice as a student/coach majoring in kinesiology.

On Wednesday, Berkman and two classmates, Ford Stainback and Kevin McCanna, made a 20-minute presentation that focused on elderly people falling while being cared for in nursing homes. The trio addressed the problems, risks and impacts of these incidents and then presented a way to prevent it from happening as much.

While Berkman seems to be thoroughly enjoying this act of his life, we felt compelled to dispense one minor bit of advice pertaining to his academic pursuits:
