Marc Rzepczynski hurts eye playing golf in latest weird Spring Training injury

Marc Rzepczynski suffered a freak left eye injury during a golf outing with his Cardinals teammates on Friday -- the latest in a string of strange injuries this Spring. It is believed that an acorn, or some other debris, flew up into the reliever's face as he was hitting his second shot of the day at the Admiral's Cove golf course in Jupiter, Fla. The southpaw was sent to a local eye doctor and will be re-evaluated on Monday.

Rzep's off-the-field injury may seem strange, but where does it rank among other incredibly odd injuries this Spring?

  • Gio Gonzalez suffered a dog-induced rugburn on his forehead last month, and is probably the first person in the history of the world to experience this type of injury.
  • Elvis Andrus had an enormous tattoo etched on his bicep and, as a result, was too sore to play in a game against the Indians.
  • And finally, Rays reliever Joel Peralta strained his neck getting out of his car to order sandwiches. Those evil, evil sand-witches.
