Minor League team plays 'Enter Sandman' to celebrate Mariano Rivera's son's debut
When you hear "Mariano Rivera" you also expect to hear "Enter Sandman." At this point, it's basically a Pavlovian response, like how hearing Charlie Blackmon's name immediately causes you to grow a full beard (That's what Pavlovian means, right?).
So, when Mo's son, also named Mariano Rivera, made his debut on the road with the Class A Auburn Doubledays, the home team made sure he felt welcome, playing the Metallica song when he came out in the sixth inning:
Did the music make a difference? We'll let his numbers speak for themselves:
BOTTOM 6: Mariano Rivera Jr. makes his professional debut and retires the side in order while recording his 1st strikeout! Auburn leads 5-4.- Auburn Doubledays (@Doubledays) June 24, 2015
BOTTOM 7: Rivera Jr. gives up two singles to start off the inning, but then strikes out three straight Spikes! Auburn leads 6-4.- Auburn Doubledays (@Doubledays) June 24, 2015
Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
