Athletics' prospect Chris Lamb strikes out 17 batters with a record 10 in a row

Minor Leaguer Chris Lamb K's 17 including 10 in a row

Hey, kid! Yeah, you! You like strikeouts, don't you? Of course you do! What kind of baseball fan would you be if you didn't like a guy rearing back and throwing straight heat past a helpless batter. In that case, you're going to love Chris Lamb of the Class A Stockton Ports.

Despite playing in an environment that is extremely hitter-friendly, Chris Lamb struck out 17 batters including a California League record-tying ten in a row. After striking out three batters going into the third inning, Lamb got Erisbel Arruebarrena to strike out swinging. The A's prospect retired the next nine batter on strikes, seven of them going down hacking.

And although he struck out 17, while walking only one, Lamb still took the hard-luck loss after surrendering a home run to Arruebarrena in the bottom of the first. Reliever Nolan Sanburn came on in the eighth, surrendering two more runs in the Ports' 3-0 loss.

As for the last Major Leaguer to strike out 17, that was Anibal Sanchez on April 26th, 2013.

Lamb's mark would have also tied the Major League record of ten consecutive strikeouts set by Tom Seaver against the Padres on April 22, 1970.

That was most recently challenged by then-Tigers pitcher Doug Fister, when he K'd nine Royals in a row in 2012.
