It was announced on Thursday that the Pirates and Marlins will play baseball next season in Puerto Rico. The two-game series, to be played on May 30-31, will coincide with the observance of Roberto Clemente Day on May 31. It will be the first time that Major League Baseball will play an official game there since the 2010 season when the Marlins and Mets played each other.

The league first played there to kick off the 2001 season when the Rangers took on the Blue Jays on April 1.

That game featured two Puerto Rican natives in Carlos Delgado and Ivan Rodriguez. Said Delgado before the game, "I've played many games in that stadium, but this is going to be a little bit sweeter. I'm so happy I'm a part of it. I'm going to enjoy every moment.''

While Rodriguez went 0-for-4 at the plate, he did manage to catch Alex Gonzalez stealing. Meanwhile, Delgado had a bit better showing, going 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Not only was this a homecoming for the two players, but it was also Alex Rodriguez's debut with the Rangers after signing his still-a-record $252 million contract. While Rodriguez went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring Texas' only run on the day, he also committed a throwing error that allowed (who else?) but Delgado to reach base.

According to The New York Times, he also tripped on his shoelace and missed a grounder in the seventh inning, as the Blue Jays would go on to win 8-1.

Well, no debut can be perfect.
