Padres announcers call game from front row, heckle Royals players

Padres announcers call game from front row

San Diego broadcasters Dick Enberg and Mark Grant worked Monday's Royals-Padres contest from Petco Park's "On-Deck Suite." It wasn't the first time announcers have ventured into the stands, but this instance featured the most player interaction that you're likely to ever see in the midst of a broadcast.

Grant offered Salvador Perez a margarita at one point and later got Danny Valencia to spray some Stickum into his glove, but he saved his most vociferous actions for Billy Butler, standing up and taunting Kansas City's first baseman/DH with "I could beat you in a race right now." The ultimate sign that Grant was doing it right? Butler treated him like any other skilled fan heckler by refusing to acknowledge him.

Well done to Mud for making the best out of his front-row experience. Now what I have to wonder is: What would Bob Uecker think of this?
