Rangers grow tired of a close game, hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to pull away
Texas grew tired of close game, so hit 3 straight HRs
Entering the bottom of the seventh inning on Wednesday, the Rangers were nursing a 3-2 lead against the Mariners, thanks in large part to 6 1/3 strong innings from the now-Rick Vaughn-styled Derek Holland making his first start of the season. Oh yeah, and a Delino DeShields toss to the plate to end the top half of the inning:
Surely tired of keeping the game close, the Rangers decided that a tense game was fun and all, but it was time to pull away with this thing.
Mitch Moreland started it with a two-run home run, Shin-Soo Choo stopping at second base as he thought Nelson Cruz had managed to snag the ball at the wall. Said Moreland after the game:
Mike Napoli was next, smashing a ball deep, deep, deep into the stands. Which continued a day of great luck for the slugger:
Elvis Andrus then came up to complete the trifecta -- giving the Rangers a 7-2 lead:
Or, to look at it in a purely cold and numeric way, the Rangers went from having a 79.2 percent chance of winning before the homer barrage to 98.2.
Sadly, Rougned Odor grounded out to end the streak, keeping the Rangers from being the first team since 2010 to hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back jacks. Which would also be a great name for a movie about an action hero named Jack who has to use a carjack to stop a villain named Jack at a jacks tournament.
