Rickie Fowler, noted Cardinals fan, attends Game 4 of the NLCS

Professional golfer Rickie Fowler moved to Jupiter, Fla., a couple of years ago, which put him practically in the Spring Training backyard of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Given how much baseball players love golfing and how much professional athletes tend to gravitate toward each other, it's not surprising that it didn't take long before Fowler became friendly with several Cards players.

Fowler has become such a Cardinals fan that he took a trip to his native southern California this week to pull for his guys at Dodger Stadium during Game 4 of the NLCS.

Sitting near the visiting dugout wearing a St. Louis cap, Fowler revealed he's been fishing with Matt Holliday and his kids, that he housed the Cardinals clubhouse chef during Spring Training earlier this year and that he sometimes attends the Cardinals' bible studies.

Fowler also acknowledged that there's a chance ballplayers like playing golf more than they like playing baseball.

"They love it," he said. "It's definitely a challenge for them. It's something new. You can go out -- no matter how good or bad your are --- everyone's kind of on the same playing field. You have some fun and it's a great way to spend an day off."
