Here's Jarrod Saltalamacchia modeling Jose Fernandez's purple pants and gold shoes
The photo above is not an example of rookie hazing. What you're observing is the standard level of style associated with reigning NL Rookie of the Year Jose Fernandez, as modeled by his somewhat less-swagged-out Marlins teammate, catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
The team enjoyed Salty's stunt -- particularly Fernandez himself. According to Joe Frisaro's blog The Fish Pond,
"I love it," Fernandez said.
From the field, a player was heard asking: "Is that Prince?"
So much so that Fernandez ran into the clubhouse to get his phone to talk some pictures. Saltalmacchia, meanwhile, did his morning stretch while wearing those tight, bright purple jeans.
Presumably Salty removed the gold shoes before digging in the bullpen dirt to catch bullpens. Manager Mike Redmond also got a kick out of it, and as you can see in this video, at one point Saltalamacchia even donned a Fernandez jersey to complete the effect:
