Subway Series heats up with Mets-Yanks Twitter feud
It was bad enough that the Mets lost the latest Subway Series to the Yankees on Sunday night, dropping a 6-4 rubber game in the Bronx. Then they also had to suffer the indignity of a loss on social media.
It began when the Mets' official account tweeted out an in-game update, referring to the Yankees not by name, but as "NY (AL)."
NY (AL) grabs a run in the 5th. We trail 6-4.

The Yankees replied with a correction.
@Mets Yankees. We are the YANKEES.

That's when the fun began. Perhaps the Mets were inspired by outfielder Curtis Granderson, who famously said that "true New Yorkers are Mets fans" upon switching allegiances two winters ago. Perhaps they were feeling emboldened by the Empire State Building, which blazed blue and orange after the Mets won Game 2 of the Subway Series on Saturday night.
Or maybe they just wanted to pick a fight:
@Yankees thanks for the update. We like to be associated with the great city of New York but if you don't like to that's cool.

The Yankees didn't reply -- not right away, anyway. They went with the slow play, waiting until Andrew Miller had nailed down the final three outs to drop their mic.
