The Rock started a 'Jeter' chant on Monday Night Raw in Brooklyn

The Rock chants 'DER-EK JE-TER' on Monday Night Raw

FINALLY, The Rock has come back to Monday Night Raw.

One of the greatest performers in the history of the sports entertainment industry made his triumphant return to professional wrestling with a surprise appearance during Raw in Brooklyn on Monday.

Dwayne Johnson had been previously occupied by a burgeoning film career in which he traded his traditional wrestling uniform for, uh, a furry version of that as he starred in the summer blockbuster/flop Hercules.

The Rock got a huge pop (wrestling speak for "cheer") when he came out of the tunnel and entered the squared circle to start one of his epic soliloquies. When he was interrupted by Rusev (don't worry, you're not supposed to have heard of him, really), The Rock made a play for the crowd, showering the Big Apple with praise and going so far as to admit paying RE2PECT to The Captain. Then he started a Jeter chant.

What you just witnessed might very well be the single most American moment in the history of popular culture. If only it had happened in a Die Hard movie.
