Ump deserves Gold Glove for this barehand catch
Back in 2010, Manny Gonzalez became the first Venezuelan MLB umpire. Since then, he's built a bit of a reputation for himself with his cat-like reflexes.
Those reflexes were on full display in the early going on Wednesday when Gonzalez suited up and got behind the plate for the Cubs-Reds game at Wrigley Field. Cubs leadoff hitter Dexter Fowler fouled a ball back off the screen in the first at-bat of the game. The ball bounced back toward the plate and into Gonzalez's peripheral vision, so he stepped over and snagged it with one hand:
We know there's no such thing as the umpire Gold Glove Award, but if it did exist, Gonzalez would be a shoo-in as a finalist in 2015.
