This ball was destined to be a hit - and then the baseball gods intervened
Just look at this play, courtesy of the Gary Southshore Railcats.
That poor, unlucky hitter. His comebacker looked perfectly destined to be a base hit before some force -- supernatural or otherwise -- interfered and batted it away.
Look at how that ball just careens right at the shortshop! Yeah, he had to make an awesome leap to grab it (and it was seriously awesome), but that just makes the whole play much more preordained.
Do the baseball gods get an assist on the play? Does second base? What is second base's UZR? These are questions worth asking, friends.
