Phillies fans gave Tony Gwynn Jr. a standing ovation in his first game after his father's death

Phillies fans gave Tony Gwynn Jr. a standing ovation

Eight days after Tony Gwynn's tragic passing, his son, Tony Gwynn Jr., returned to the Phillies for their game against the Marlins on Tuesday night. When he came on to pinch-hit in the 8th inning, the Phillies faithful wanted to show their support during this difficult time, giving Gwynn a standing ovation.

Said Gwynn after the game:

"It was pretty awesome. It made the at-bat a little more difficult, had to fight the emotion and the tears and stuff like that. But that's why guys who play here like to play here."

Too often in sports we forget that the players we cheer for are people, too. That wasn't the case in Philadelphia.
