A.J. Cole just wanted to intentionally walk Daniel Descalso, and that's when it all went wrong

When Nationals starter A.J. Cole put runners on second and third with two outs in the fourth inning of the Rockies' 9-4 win over the Nationals, he figured he'd go with the intentional walk. With the pitcher on deck, probably better to not take any chances.
Alas, Cole forgot the cardinal rule of the free pass: Always make sure the ball doesn't end up at the backstop.

This does create a great opportunity for a trick play, though: Play the angles right and you could conceivably bounce the ball off the backstop for an easy out at home. Maybe next time.
