The Alex Reyes era has begun in St. Louis with authority ... and 101-mph fastballs

The moment many Cardinals fans have been waiting for became reality on Tuesday, when Alex Reyes took the mound at Busch Stadium in the ninth inning of the Cards' 7-4 loss to the Reds. 
Reyes, ranked No. 1 in St. Louis' system by MLB Pipeline, was called up prior to the game to replace Michael Wacha, who was placed on the disabled list. Reyes, an imposing presence at 6-foot-3, 175 pounds, faced three batters in the ninth and put his repertoire of pitches on full display.
By that, we mean he reached back and hit 101 mph on the radar gun with the ease of a guy playing a game of catch in the backyard. Facing 2016 All-Star Adam Duvall, Reyes also mixed in an impossible off-speed pitch en route to picking up his first career whiff:

Folks wowed by high-velocity pitching are spoiled these days  whenever Aroldis Chapman and his 105-mph gas light up the mound, but based off his big league debut (and his display at the SiriusXM Futures Game last month) Reyes looks like a strong contender as well.
