Maikel Franco showed off his arm with an incredible jump throw

As the name suggests, playing good defense at the hot corner is often more about reactions and arm strength than raw speed. Balls often get down there too quickly for a player's speed to make much of a difference. That's good news for Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco, who ranks 52nd out of 56 third basemen on Statcast's Sprint Speed Leaderboard.
During the second inning of Monday's game against the Cardinals, Franco reacted to a grounder from Marcell Ozuna and then showed off his arm while flying into foul territory:

These plays are typically reserved for the likes of Manny Machado and Nolan Arenado -- in other words, players with Gold Glove Awards to their names. With an arm like that, Franco put himself in the rarefied tier of third basemen capable of making that play.
