White Sox Minor League catcher Zack Collins has a lot going for him. He was the 10th overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft and is currently the No. 6-ranked prospect in the third-best farm system in MLB. According to the MLB Pipeline scouting report on Collins, "his combination of strength, bat speed and loft in his stroke could result in 25 homers per season," and "he should produce solid batting averages and high on-base percentages to go with his pop." However, it leaves out the most important fact about Collins: He's named after Zack Morris.
Yes, from "Saved by the Bell."
CSN Chicago talked to the Collins family. Here's Zack's dad on the inspiration:
"(Zack Morris) was the cool kid with the cell phone and the ladies," Patrick Collins said. "We just loved Zack as a name and said, well let's name him after Zack from 'Saved by the Bell.' We were joking about it and 'Yeah, let's do it.'"
Zack claims to have never seen an episode of the show, but his dad says he took on some of his namesake's qualities anyway -- he does look pretty Zack-Morris-cool in those sunglasses:
