What is the Prospect Development Pipeline?

The Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) is a collaborative effort between Major League Baseball (MLB), the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau (MLBSB) and USA Baseball. The program established an official identification and player assessment pathway for elite high school age amateur baseball players in the United States to all 30 MLB Clubs for the amateur draft.

What is the cost for Prospect Development Pipeline events?

There is no cost. PDP participation is provided at no cost to the athlete.

How can my son participate in a PDP Premier event?

PDP Premier events are invitation only. Identified athletes will be notified by USA Baseball to participate in their respective event. Only athletes invited by USA Baseball will be able to compete.

If my son attends a PDP Event, is he guaranteed to be drafted?

No. PDP Premier Events are solely for the identification and evaluation of prospective athletes for USA Baseball, the MLB Scouting Bureau and MLB scouts. Premier events bring Club scouts closer to the athletes than ever before. Participating players are updated within the MLB draft database and assigned their eBIS 2 number. Participating players will continue to be evaluated respective to their draft class as an amateur prospect.

Do I receive anything after participating in a PDP event?

After an event, you will receive a customized Prospect Development Pipeline Player Report containing educational information, amateur resources and post-event evaluation with your personalized athletic assessment. Participating players are updated within the MLB draft database and assigned their eBIS 2 number. Participating players will continue to be evaluated respective to their draft class as an amateur prospect.

What do players wear during PDP events? Can I wear my high school/travel team uniform?

Participating players will be given one PDP shirt and hat to wear during the event. Players are encouraged to bring: white baseball pants, navy baseball socks, baseball belt and any necessary playing equipment while participating.

What are the bat specifications at Prospect Development Pipeline events?

PDP events are WOOD BAT only. Players are expected to bring their own wood bat.
