June 15: C Henry Davis placed on 7-day concussion injured list; C Jason Delay recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis
Davis, who was struggling at the plate with a .503 OPS and one home run on the season, was removed from Friday’s win over the Rockies in the seventh inning after he began to exhibit concussion-like symptoms.
“He took a pretty good shot last night, and then an inning later, he came over and wasn’t in a good spot,” manager Derek Shelton said. “So we got him out, we ran him through the protocol … we have to make sure -- these are serious, serious things when you’re dealing with foul balls and I appreciate that Major League Baseball really has a really good protocol in this case.”
The Pirates placed Davis on the seven-day concussion injured list on Saturday, and recalled Delay from Triple-A. Delay underwent surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee in April. In 10 games with Indianapolis, he batted .194 (6-for-31) with a pair of doubles.
June 15: SS Oneil Cruz (left ankle soreness) remains out of lineup
Cruz was a late scratch from the starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Rockies at Coors Field. He was experiencing left ankle soreness after rolling the ankle during Thursday’s series finale against the Cardinals in St. Louis.
Prior to Friday’s game, manager Derek Shelton said that Cruz was experiencing soreness but was going to try to play, and that the club would monitor him. Afterward, Shelton said that Cruz ran well prior to the game and took ground balls, but that the ankle bothered him more during batting practice.
“He’s still sore,” Shelton said. “Yesterday, he was sore while hitting. He’s out there playing catch and doing things right now. But with the left-hander [Rockies starter Ty Blach] on the mound, we could give him another day, too. So we’ll just continue to monitor him.”
June 14: RHP Hunter Stratton (right triceps strain) placed on 15-day IL; LHP Josh Fleming recalled; INF Niko Goodrum designated for assignment; RHP Ben Heller cleared waivers and accepted outright assignment to Triple-A
Stratton exited Thursday's 4-3 loss to St. Louis after a 1-0 pitch to Cardinals utility man Brendan Donovan. Before catcher Yasmani Grandal could throw the ball back to the mound, Stratton motioned to the dugout, and left the game with assistant athletic trainer Tony Leo.
“He’s back in Pittsburgh,” manager Derek Shelton said prior to Friday’s series opener against the Rockies. “I think over the next 24 hours, we’ll have a better idea of the specifics of the injury.”
Fleming posted a 5.68 ERA over 17 appearances (one start) for Pittsburgh earlier this season before he was designated for assignment.

Williams began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on June 13. He had a cortisone injection in early June and responded well, so the Pirates are proceeding with the plan to get him back into action. (Last updated: June 13)
RHP Quinn Priester (right lat muscle)

Priester is currently asymptomatic and is resting before he resumes throwing. He is responding well to treatments and will be reassessed in about five to seven days. (Last updated: June 7)
INF/OF Ji Hwan Bae (right wrist sprain)

It's been recommended that Bae does not grip a bat for 10-14 days, at which point he will be reassessed. Bae's right wrist injury is different than Alika Williams' one, according to director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk. (Last updated: June 7)
C Joey Bart (left thumb injury)

Bart's thumb injury, which occurred after he caught a pitch awkwardly on May 26, has been diagnosed as a grade-one UCL sprain. It was recommended that he do no gripping activities, and he will continue to refrain from doing so for another week. After that time, he will be reassessed. (Last updated: June 7)
LHP Martín Pérez (left groin strain)

Pérez is currently pain-free with all his rehab activities and playing catch on flat ground with no restrictions. Director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk anticipates the left-hander will throw off a slope soon, likely the weekend of June 7-9. Pérez exited early in his last start on May 26, feeling discomfort after covering first base on a play. (Last updated: June 7)

LHP Ryan Borucki (left triceps inflammation)

Borucki threw a 20-pitch bullpen Wednesday, his first time throwing off of a slope. He exited saying he felt good, and that he has bullpens scheduled for Saturday and Tuesday. (Last updated: June 12)
LHP Marco Gonzales (left forearm strain)
Expected return: 2024
Gonzales threw off a slope for the first time since being sent to the injured list on April 14, throwing a 20-pitch bullpen on Wednesday. Some more bullpens and a rehab assignment will presumably be the next steps, but it's an encouraging sign for a rotation that could use some depth. (Last updated: June 12)
RHP Johan Oviedo (Tommy John surgery)

Oviedo started a throwing program at the Pirates' Florida complex the week of May 20 now that he's crossed the six-month mark from his surgery. He is throwing out to 75 feet. (Last updated: June 7)
C Endy Rodríguez (right elbow surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Rodríguez will transfer his rehab to the Pirates' Florida complex. The team envisions getting clearance for him to start a throwing program later in May. However, it's still not expected that Rodríguez will be able to play competitive games this season. (Last updated: May 17)
RHP Dauri Moreta (UCL surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Moreta underwent UCL reconstruction surgery in March, confirming fears that he will not pitch in 2024. The team anticipates a full recovery in approximately 14-16 months, with the hope that it might be on the shorter side since he is a reliever.
