'Super-charged' Heredia scales wall for epic catch
'Super-charged' Heredia scales wall for epic catch
NEW YORK -- Count Guillermo Heredia among those who were shocked when he swung from the right-field wall after robbing Jeff McNeil of an extra-base hit during the Braves’ 9-2 win over the Mets on Wednesday afternoon at Citi Field.
“I don’t think I’ve ever done that in my life,” Heredia said through an interpreter. “I almost impressed myself after watching the video. I just thought, 'Wow, that’s crazy.'”
This was a popular reaction after Heredia raced toward the right-field corner, scaled the wall and grabbed the ball before it was likely going to hit near the top of the wall. As the Braves outfielder swung from the wall with his left arm, he raised his right arm to show the ball was in his glove.
“That’s an unbelievable catch,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “We might be watching that the rest of the year. It was awesome.”
Heredia wasn’t scheduled to play until Travis Demeritte showed up Wednesday and said he was too tired after participating in the entirety of Tuesday’s doubleheader. Along with making the great catch, Heredia also tallied his second homer of the season.
“Heredia is super-charged every day,” Snitker said. “I’d love to be in that body. He’s never tired.”
