Tyler Black was sent to the Arizona Fall League to make up for lost at-bats. Unfortunately, that attempt will also be cut short.

The Brewers’ No. 6 prospect suffered a fractured left thumb Friday and will miss the remainder of the AFL season, reports MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy.

The injury came when Black slid into second base on a fourth-inning double in Glendale’s 11-1 win at home over Surprise. The 22-year-old was immediately replaced by a pinch-runner and learned the news of his early AFL exit soon after.

Black leaves the Fall League with a .279/.413/.377 line, one homer, three doubles and four stolen bases over 17 games with the Desert Dogs. He made nine starts in center field, five in left and three at second base.

Milwaukee selected the Wright State product with the 33rd overall pick in 2021 on the strength of his plus hit tool and overall athleticism dating back to his days as a hockey player in his native Ontario. Black got off to a solid start in his first full season, hitting .281/.406/.424 with a 44/45 K/BB ratio through 64 games at High-A Wisconsin, before a left scapula fracture ended his first full regular season on July 10. He finally returned to game activity on AFL Opening Day on Oct. 3.

In total, Black finishes the 2022 calendar year with 81 games played and 359 plate appearances in competitive action.
