Redbird Rookies

Along with encouraging our athletes to stay active and healthy on the field, each summer we host a Health Fair sponsored by the Boniface Foundation. During the fair, our community partners offer valuable nutritional guidance, free health screenings, and hands on activities that are both fun and educational for families.

We also partner with Schnucks to promote healthy eating and an active lifestyle all season long. Redbird Rookies track their progress on a Healthy Habits Form, and those who complete it can earn exciting rewards!

Each summer, Redbird Rookies athletes participate in their local library's Summer Reading Program, sponsored by the Boniface Foundation. After completing the program, athletes can redeem their completion certificate for a special prize at the end of the season.

Redbird Rookies also offers enriching educational experiences through partnerships with the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station, Missouri History Museum, The Magic House, St. Louis Art Museum, National Blues Museum, Gateway Arch National Park, and the Saint Louis Science Center. Through these partnerships, participants explore the histories and cultures of people across the St. Louis region and engage in hands on lessons that build practical, real life skills.

Redbird Rookies partners with the Center of Creative Arts (COCA), The Sheldon Concert Hall, Stifel Theatre, and The Muny to provide families with access to live performances and unique cultural experiences. Through these partnerships, participants and their families enjoy music, theatre, and other artistic programs at some of St. Louis’ most historic and vibrant venues thanks to our sponsorship with the Boniface Foundation.

Redbird Rookies is proud to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri to help connect our participants with meaningful, long term mentors. BBBS pairs children ages 5–17 with caring adult volunteers who provide support, encouragement, and a reliable presence. These volunteers listen, laugh, and learn alongside their mentee, building a 1:1 relationship that helps each child grow with confidence both on and off the field.

In partnership with the St. Louis Community Foundation, the Redbird Rookies Saigh Scholarship provides $10,000 in postsecondary education support for up to ten students each year who participated in the Redbird Rookies program after completing the 7th grade. The scholarship recognizes young people who excel both in the classroom and as teammates. Recipients demonstrate integrity, confidence, leadership, teamwork, and attitude that reflect the values of a successful Redbird Rookies graduate.

To further support applicants, we partner with College Bound to host a series of scholarship summits each summer, offering guidance and resources throughout the application process.
