This fan tried -- unsuccessfully -- to catch an Anthony Rizzo home run in his beer

The beer catch is arguably the most awe-inspiring category of fan catch, a shining testament to what can be achieved with a little luck, a lot of hand-eye coordination and a plastic cup. But of course, with great power comes great responsibility -- and with the attempt to catch a baseball in a cup full of beer comes the risk of spilling that beer everywhere.
One Cubs fan found this out the hard way during Thursday's game against the Dodgers at Wrigley. When Anthony Rizzo launched a homer to right in the first inning, one man in the bleachers had glory in his sights ... and came up just short:

While the beer was never heard from again, our story does have a happy ending. Brenda from Tinley Park, Ill., took her daughter Alyssa to the game for her 19th birthday. The two just happened to be sitting a row in front of the attempted beer grab -- and while they got a bit soaked, they also ended up with a souvenir:

Alyssa's favorite player? None other than Anthony Rizzo.
