Throwback Photo of the Day: Bob Uecker made a 'Derek Jeter catch' before it was a 'Derek Jeter catch'

You know Bob Uecker as the legendary broadcaster who's been the voice of the Brewers for 45 years (he's still going strong). Your older brother knows Uecker as the broadcaster of the hapless Indians team in the 1989 movie "Major League." Your dad knows Uecker as the ring announcer at WrestleMania III, or as that guy from the beer commercials. Your mom knows Uecker as the silver fox who used to have Johnny Carson rolling in the aisles of his own set.
But your grandfather ... he probably knows Uecker as the journeyman catcher who spent parts of six seasons in MLB with the Braves, Cardinals and Phillies.
In 1962, Uecker was a rookie catcher for the Milwaukee Braves when he made an incredible play to help preserve a win on the road in Pittsburgh. On Sept. 22, the Braves were up on the Pirates by two runs in the bottom of the eighth with two men on base and two outs. Pirates catcher Cal Neeman stepped up to the plate with an opportunity to keep the rally going, but popped up into foul territory down the first-bast line.
Uecker ranged over and -- as the AP notes -- "popped head first into a box seat" to make a crucial catch and get the Braves out of the jam. They went on to win, 2-0.
