Chris Coghlan took a page out of 'Major League' and leapt clear over the catcher

When you watch a baseball movie, you have to remind yourself: It's fiction. It's not real. There are no actual angels in the outfield and Kevin Costner doesn't learn about life and love in the middle of a no-hitter. 
But Chris Coghlan had to come along and throw all of that out the window. During the Blue Jays' 6-5 victory over the Cardinals on Tuesday night, Coghlan was on first base after entering as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning when Kevin Pillar hit a triple to right field. Coghlan raced around the bases, but -- oh no, the ball had beat him to home plate. 
Not to worry, Coghlan simply leapt over Yadier Molina before somersaulting over the plate to give the Jays a 3-2 lead. 

Compare that to Willie Mays Hayes in "Major League." It's almost as if "Major League" could predict the future. 

It's not the only film that Coghlan's slide evoked, though. At first like "Superman," you'll believe a man can fly:

But then, oh no, like the second and third "Matrix" installments, everything falls apart. 

Oh gosh, we have impact here, like "Deep Impact." 

And finally, the triumphant stroll through the meadows, like in "The Sound of Music." 

And just like films, there are plenty of remakes, too. After all, Fordham's Brian Kownacki slide in 2010 was like the low-budget indie version of Coghlan's attempt. 

Maybe movies aren't fiction after all.
