Dellin Betances turned a between-the-legs grab into a rally-killing 1-6-3 double play

The ability of a pitcher to field his position on the mound is crucial, especially in close games.
In the 13th and final inning of the Yankees' 5-4 win over the Royals on Wednesday night, fireballing relieverDellin Betances began the frame by walking Cheslor Cuthbert. No pitcher wants to do that, especially with Eric Hosmer stepping up to the plate next.
That's when this happened:

Just like that, the Royals' hopes of invoking the #RallyMantis faded away and Betances nailed down the save.
Said Betances to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch after the game:
"Just trying to make a play and make sure I make a good throw to second. Didi hosed the ball to first and made a tremendous play on his part. Right there, I'm just trying to make a good throw. Obviously it's not the best double play, but as long as you get a turn, that's the important thing."
Manager Joe Girardi was similarly understated about Betances' heads-up play:
"It's not the prettiest. But it works and we've got a strong arm at short to make up for that. It's an outstanding play."
Never underestimate the power of a well-timed between-the-legs grab.
