George Springer went full Kelly Leak and posterized Marwin Gonzalez with his leaping catch

George Springercame up with a leaping catch off Todd Frazier's fly ball to help protect the Astros' lead in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series presented by Camping World. He was back at it the next night. In the seventh inning of the Astros' 4-0 AL pennant-clinching win in Game 7, he wasn't going to let anything or anyone -- including a teammate -- get in his way. 
When Greg Bird hit a deep fly ball to left-center, both Springer and left fielder Marwin Gonzalez raced after the ball. That's when Springer went full Kelly Leak -- the leather jacket-wearing, motorcycle-driving star player on the "Bad News Bears" -- and refused to let anyone else make the catch. This was a leaping grab like on Friday night, but it went over the Astros' utility player extraordinaire. 

Springer even had to outrun Gonzalez to make the snag, running a Statcast-measured 117 feet compared to Gonzalez's 105. That's dedication. 
Afterward, they were all smiles -- even if Springer was sure to let the left fielder know that he could back up a few steps. 

"I didn't know he was there," Springer explained afterward. "Just kind of one of those things where he was camped up [under] it and it was loud here. It was hard to communicate. I saw the ball and said 'I'm going to go catch it.' I caught it."
Though Springer's leaping grab came during the season's biggest game, he's got a long way to go if he's going to top Odúbel Herrera as baseball's greatest Leak impersonator. However, the Astros' center fielder definitely deserves a bobblehead that looks a little something like this:
