Joe Maddon admits his managerial inspiration is Michael Scott of 'The Office'

When managers talk about the leadership style they most try to emulate, most will either point to a manager they played for during their career, or perhaps they'll say they emulate a world leader like Abraham Lincoln or Winston Churchill. Not for Joe Maddon.
Before the Cubs' 1-0 loss to the Indians in Game 3 of the World Series, Maddon was asked about his biggest managerial influence and he said, "Michael Scott, probably the biggest influence. That's 'The Office' for those that don't watch TV."
It makes a lot of sense. Not only is Maddon a giant fan who binge-watched the show during last year's Spring Training, but his endless cavalcade of tricks and events are sometimes like a sitcom.
Really, the whole team could be a part of the cast: Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant are Jim and Pam, an inseparable duo that is constantly pulling pranks; David Ross is Stanley, the quiet and dignified elder statesman; Javier Báez is Dwight with his endless enthusiasm; Jake Arrieta is Darryl for his understated cool (and excellent facial hair); and Kyle Hendricks just seems like an Andy.
Tune into FOX for Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday, with air time at 7:30 p.m. ET, game time at 8:00 p.m.
