Mark Canha talked with a Red Sox fan, almost stole a HR and made a great catch -- all in two innings

Mark Canha went 0-for-4 at the plate in the A's 6-5 win over the Red Sox on Monday night -- but don't assume he had a quiet evening.
Quite the contrary, actually. Defensively, Canha was caught in the middle of a trio of noteworthy events in right field.
The final out of the seventh inning, for example, brought Canha over toward the wall, where he had an exchange with a Red Sox fan after making the play:

The first pitch of the bottom of the eighth was an opposite-field homer from J.D. Martinez, bringing Boston to within one run -- but only because Canha just barely missed it:

Had Canha held on to the ball, he'd probably have received a congratulatory phone call from Terrence Long:

After just missing that would-be home run thievery, Canha atoned with a twisty, turny catch to end the eighth inning:

All in a night's work for the frequently masked A's outfielder.
