Please enjoy this celebration of players enjoying a variety of mid-game snacks

For far too long, dugouts and diamonds have been food-free zones -- sure, bubble gum and the occasional sunflower seeds were fair game, but nothing more substantive. But why? Why do we deny our heroes the tasty in-game treats they deserve? Why is it so hard to believe that they might require some sustenance over the course of three hours? Look at what's become of them:

So today, on this National Snack Day, we come not to bury the mid-game meal, but to praise it -- by celebrating some of the very finest snacking moments the game has ever seen. Here's to you, 2015 Astros, whose love for gummy bears ran so deep that it became a vital part of home run celebrations:

And you, Yasmani Grandal, who made sure that his apple a day would keep the doctor away:

Don't worry, Anthony Rizzo, we're sure those Cubs fans down the first-base line were honored to satiate your desire for in-game peanuts:

Prince Fielder is more of a nacho man himself:

David DeJesus, meanwhile, found a way to keep cool in the heat of an extra-innings game:

Other possible uses for ice cream: a nice dugout reward after a home run.

And perhaps the original in-game snacker: Donnie Baseball:

Congratulations, MLB snackers. We salute you all. Except you, Giancarlo.
