New Padres hitting coach Matt Stairs once set the career pinch-hit dinger record with the team

Monday evening, the Padres announced that they hired Matt Stairs as their hitting coach. Stairs spent the 2017 season with the Phillies in the same role.
Given that he played for a total of 13 teams over the course of his Major League career, it's perhaps not surprising that Stairs played for both the Phillies and Padres. He certainly had some notable accomplishments with the former team as he won a World Series with the club in 2008 and contributed to that postseason run with a pinch-hit home run that is already the stuff of legends:

He wasn't done there, though. He hit two more home runs for the Padres as a pinch-hitter to push his record to 23 pinch-hit home runs. And that 23rd sure was a fitting way to cap off a career of pinch-hitting:

Look for the Padres hitters to channel their new hitting coach's historic powers in 2018.
