Nick Pivetta tried picking off Anthony Rizzo, who was literally standing on the first-base bag

All Nick Pivetta wanted to do was keep Anthony Rizzo close at first base. In the fifth inning of Philadelphia's 6-3 win over the Cubs on Sunday, the Philadelphia right-hander fired to first, in an effort to make sure Rizzo wasn't going anywhere.
Spoiler alert: He wasn't going anywhere, as evidenced by this pickoff throw, hurled from Pivetta to Tommy Joseph with Rizzo firmly planted on first base the entire time: 

Undeterred by the fact that he exerted all that effort with no chance of catching Rizzo off-guard (considering he was literally standing on the bag), Pivetta fired over again a few pitches later and nearly did pick him off ... until the out call was overturned on replay:
