Check out the amazing gear that will turn Atlantic League catchers into living art this year

Have you ever looked at a catcher squatting behind the plate, noticed the drab one or two-color pieces of equipment and thought, "You know, there simply must be a way make this pop more?"
Well, the independent Atlantic League must have had ESP because they heard your thoughts and made them come true. Working with Skye Dillon at the Florham Park, New Jersey-based Skye Design Studios, there will be eight team-specific looks this season that not only give you the art-filled NHL-style catcher's masks that you hoped for, but also fully-realized chest protectors and even shin guards to complete the look.
Just look at how the honey drips down on the shinguards on the new-to-the-league New Britain Bees:

Or how the Bridgeport Bluefish truly live up to their name:

There is also some great detail on the helmet for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, with Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige and Larry Doby being included to highlight the "diversity of Waldorf, Md."

As Dillon told MLB.com in an email:
"The Atlantic League approached us in August 2015 looking for a branding partner to bring the concept to life. At SDS we always strive to be forward-thinking and innovative, as design is a moving target, constantly evolving."
Which certainly makes sense given that the Somerset Patriots' design looks like the American flag was sent through the Pokemon training process and came out in a brand new form.

While catchers can opt to wear an old style helmet, every backstop will be wearing the brand new tricked-out gear. Which means going to the ballpark can also be counted as going to the art museum.
