PHOENIX -- It took until their 31st game of the season, but the D-backs have finally lost two consecutive games as the Dodgers rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to beat them, 5-2, on Thursday afternoon at Chase Field.
With the loss, the D-backs split the four-game series with their National League West rival, ending Arizona's streak of consecutive series won at nine. That is the second-longest streak to open a season behind just the 1907 Cubs, who won their first 11 series.
"It's a great story," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "It's something fun for everybody to talk about. I guess when you look back on it, we're really proud of that. It unfortunately got a little mixed up today, but as sure as I'm sitting here right now, I knew that we were probably going to lose two games in a row at some point this year. So it's OK."
Arizona was done in by an uncharacteristically ugly eighth inning in which relievers Noel Salas and Jorge De La Rosa struggled.
The pair combined to walk two (one intentional), allow three hits and throw two wild pitches as the Dodgers scored four runs.

There is little time for the D-backs to worry about letting this one get away, though, as they open a three-game series against the defending World Series champion Astros at Chase Field on Friday night.
The Astros, who are off to a solid start, dropped three of four to the Yankees this week in Houston.
"They're hot, they're a good team and I think they're going to be especially ready to go after losing that series to the Yankees," D-backs reliever Archie Bradley said. "So we're going to have to bring our best."
Rebounding from losses is something the D-backs have done well so far this year, as evidenced by the fact that it took them this long to drop two in a row.
"I think last year just helped us understand that," Bradley said. "You can't take losses too seriously, especially the way we've been playing. Show up tomorrow and try to pick it back up."
Said Lovullo: "Tomorrow is another day. We reload, we take a little bit of the evening off, get away from the grind of the game and come out tomorrow and be ready for a really, really fun and exciting series against the Houston Astros."
The D-backs would like to get their offense going for that series after scoring a total of three runs over the past two games against the Dodgers.
"We just couldn't get cranked up offensively," Lovullo said. "I know that these guys are grinding, I know that these guys are working as hard as they possibly can to improve offensively, it's just one of those days where we couldn't get a big hit to maybe push across more than one run at a time."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Only got one: The D-backs took a 2-1 lead in the sixth, but they missed an opportunity to perhaps blow the game open. After Ketel Marte's single to left scored Paul Goldschmidt, the D-backs had runners at first and second with one out. Pinch-hitter Daniel Descalso was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Jeff Mathis popped out and pinch-hitter John Ryan Murphy grounded out to end the threat.
NO WORRIES ABOUT PATRICK
D-backs starter Patrick Corbin's fastball velocity was down by a couple of miles per hour, averaging around 90 mph, but neither he nor Lovullo said it was any cause for concern.

"Maybe just wasn't my best fastball today, wasn't coming out as good," Corbin said. "But felt fine and was able to locate today and kind of just do what I could with what I had today."

Kris Medlen will be added to the 40-man roster to start Friday's 6:40 p.m. MST series opener for the D-backs at Chase Field as they get their first look at the Astros this year. Medlen, who has twice had Tommy John surgery, has not pitched in a big league game since May 10, 2016, while a member of the Royals. Gerrit Cole will start for Houston.
