What is the Breakthrough Series?

The Breakthrough Series, established in 2008, is a joint effort on behalf of USA Baseball and Major League Baseball. This unique program focuses on developing the player on and off the field through seminars, mentorship, gameplay, scout evaluations, video coverage and the highest level of instruction all while providing a platform for the players to perform for scouts and collegiate coaches. The events are completely cost-free with USAB covering expenses for the players.

Players in the MLB and USA Baseball diversity pipeline, including the Breakthrough Series, Dream Series and Elite Development Invitational may be offered additional development and instructional opportunities throughout the year. Affording participants touch points at different times during the season will allow for consistent growth opportunities both in competitive and non-competitive settings and will aid in the continued advancement of their life and baseball skills.

2018 Softball Breakthrough Series

May 24-28: Compton, Calif. (Compton Youth Academy)

The Softball Breakthrough Series is designed to promote softball as a viable collegiate option for youth from underrepresented and underserved communities. The event is completely cost-free for participants, who are selected by invitation only. The program focuses on developing players on and off the field through seminars, mentorship, gameplay, scout evaluations, video coverage and the highest level of instruction.

In all, 60 participants are selected from all over the country through league nominations (the nomination period for the 2018 Breakthrough Series has already closed). Selected athletes will have the opportunity to work with U.S. Olympians, former National Team members and coaches for three days of on- and off-field instructions and scrimmages.

2018 Girls Baseball Breakthrough Series

May 31-June 3

Participants for the 2018 Girls Baseball Breakthrough Series are selected from a national pool of players, ages 17 and under. The event serves as a platform for those players looking to pursue baseball at the next level.

What is the Girls Baseball Breakthrough Series?

In its first year of existence, the Girls Baseball Breakthrough Series is a joint effort on behalf of USA Baseball (USAB) and Major League Baseball. This unique program focuses on developing the players, on and off the field, by providing elite instruction, competitive play, video coverage, seminars and mentorship, all while exposing players to U.S. National Team scouts and collegiate recruiters. The event is cost-free for participants, with USAB covering expenses.

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from and interact with some of the highest-ranking and most-experienced women throughout Baseball, as well as receive instruction from a coaching staff consisting of current and former members of the U.S. Women's National Team.
