Although we can't gather in person this summer, we want to stay connected with you! On this page, we have gathered interactive material, learning opportunities, and videos from the Cardinals, our partners and Major League Baseball. Resources for direct needs of those impacted by the pandemic can also be found here. This summer, we encourage you to stay active, and continue to learn and read! Please make sure to check back regularly as updates to the page will be added throughout the summer.

HEALTH
The Centene Charitable Foundation and Home State Health invite kids and families to join Darby Boingg and his friends as they learn how to stay safe when playing sports. Read by Dr. Jennifer Wessels, Chief Medical Director of Home State Health, Being on Your Game with Sports Safety! provides helpful information on how to be safe on and off the field.
Schnucks knows that healthy eating is the key to a healthy body! Use the Healthy Habits Tracker to track your healthy eating and physical activity! You can also find Kid Friendly Recipes and Budget Friendly Recipes everyone will love on the Schnucks website!
HealthWorks! Kids' Museum St. Louis is a local non-profit with programming that creatively teaches kids how to establish and maintain healthy mouths, healthy bodies and healthy lives. During this time, HealthWorks! understands that parents, caregivers, and educators are struggling to keep kids engaged and healthy. They are steadfast in our mission to educate and inspire children and the community to make positive oral and overall health choices to achieve optimum health.
HealthWorks! Kids' Museum St. Louis has launched Virtual Classroom, a free resource that offers a virtual museum experience and great ways for children and their support team to explore health objectives.
Founded in 1920, the Center offers superior hearing, speech, language, and screening services to people of all ages. Their mission is to transform lives through caring, personalized, and innovative programs that empower communication.
BREATH provides asthma and allergy medicines, equipment (spacers, nebulizers, peak flow meters, nebulizer tubing) and allergy-proof bed covers and assistance to Redbird Rookies families that qualify.
One of the main topics that the Brain Injury Association of Missouri addresses is brain injury prevention, especially with kids. They provide education to schools about concussions and bicycle helmet safety. The activity page is a great way for kids to learn more about how to keep their heads safe from injury.
The Greater St. Louis Area Foodbank is working to support children, families, seniors and other impacted individuals by distributing over 3.5 million meals to those in need in the bi-state region.

EDUCATION
The Adventures of Thumbs Up Johnnie is a series dedicated to teaching children the virtues of humanity, responsibility, self-pride, and work ethic. Johnnie and his "posse" turn daily activities into entertaining adventures with a cowboy twist. Author Michelle Bain created Thumbs Up Johnnie to encourage children to embody various virtues in their daily life.
In 2018, Brian Owens and students taking part in the summer Compositions for Life program, were commissioned to create an original song celebrating Bob Gibson's historic 1968 season. Using Gibson's autobiography, "From Ghetto to Glory" as inspiration, the resulting song was "Complete Gamer." After meeting Gibson, five more songs were developed to celebrate Gibson's journey to become the competitor he was on the field but also the force for change off the field.
MKU wants to educate children and their parents through hands on presentations of the following: composting, a community organic garden, basic first aid training, exercise, healthy eating choices, recycling, communication skills and educate them on the detriment of being plugged in too often. MKU wants to give kids of today a chance to create memories by unplugging from technology and plugging into what nature has to offer.

The Cardinals teamed up with Scott Credit Union to develop a financial literacy program that introduces students to the importance of making smart financial decisions. Normally shared with educators, the program is being opened up to Redbird Rookies participants.
The Summer Slugger program was developed to combat summer learning loss during vacation months, but is even more relevant for students now when they may struggle with knowledge retention due to school closures. The course -- designed for 4th and 5th graders (ages 8-11) -- focuses on math & literacy skills and teaches these concepts through a baseball-themed, gamified experience. Redbird Rookies will enjoy playing the fun and free baseball-themed games online this summer. Games can be accessed via phone, tablet, or computer, and can be played at the students’ own pace.
The Cardinals Academic Program is a field trip program at Busch Stadium that integrates the game of baseball with school curriculum and provides hands-on activities in various locations at Busch Stadium. Right now we have created some modified CAP activities to do at home. If you are curious about our field trip program for the future, take a look at this year’s brochure and the promotional video below.
The Magic House is committed to continuing its innovative, hands-on learning with you at home. Their team has started sharing activities through a series called Magic at Home with easy to print directions included!
The Saint Louis Science Center is continuing to ignite and sustain lifelong science and technology learning by using online content to engage their guests and members of all ages to keep learning and growing. Look for DIY science experiments that can be done at home, Amazing Science Demonstrations from their Energy Stage team, connections to local scientists, astronomy updates from the McDonnell Planetarium team, live chats and more.
Your library card keeps you connected. Access a variety of resources, including online tutoring, that are available online any time of day.
The FBI provides a number of interactive and educational opportunities:
- Take part in the FBI internet safety program for 3rd to 8th graders. Students select their grade level and play games to learn internet safety topics. The program is available in both English and Spanish.
- The FBI has a webpage devoted to activities for kids.
For Redbird Rookies parents and guardians, the FBI’s Child ID app provides an easy way to electronically store pictures and vital information about their children in case they go missing. The app enables you to quickly and easily e-mail the information to authorities with a few clicks.
CULTURAL ARTS
Virtual Educational Concerts - The Sheldon will offer live-streaming performances of their most popular concerts this fall, free of charge to both traditional and home schools. Designed to be flexible and easily accessible, these 45-minute performances will feature some of St. Louis' top musicians and educators and will stream live at each scheduled concert time. Performances will be available to registrants for two weeks following the initial air date, and teacher handbooks, including follow-up classroom activities, will be provided to guide teachers through each concert.
SOLID Music Program - SOLID is a STEAM-based program that challenges students to design and create their own musical instruments by following the steps of the engineering cycle. Students learn about the connected worlds of sound, science and art. Register for SOLID online or by contacting Katelyn Galenski at [email protected].
The Missouri Historical Society (MHS) recognizes the need for an outlet for inspiration and learning during this time and are providing free online resources.
The Muny is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to enrich lives by producing exceptional musical theatre, accessible to all, continuing its remarkable tradition in Forest Park. The Muny is offering the following opportunities to engage virtually:

MENTORING
Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs your child, ages 5-17, with a caring adult volunteer. This volunteer is there to listen, laugh and learn alongside your child in an 1:1 mentoring relationship. BBBSEMO actively serves over 1,200 youths in St. Louis City and County, and St. Charles and Cape Girardeau Counties.
The Positive Coaching Alliance is a national non-profit developing Better Athletes, Better People through youth and high school sports. Sports will be back and PCA wants to use this “off-season” to get its team ready to make the most of everything youth sports has to offer. PCA will share relevant resources designed to help build character while working to connect its extended team of millions across the country.
The PCA also produces the DevZone Resource Center where Redbird Rookies and their families can access resources on a number of sport topics.
