Greg Bird homered off Jalen Beeks in a true avian showdown

On Tuesday afternoon, the Yankees offered a preview of just how dangerous their powerful offense could be in 2019. Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sánchez each came up with consecutive RBI hits in the third inning, and in the fifth, Greg Bird lifted a majestic solo shot to cap the scoring in a 6-2 win.

The best part about Bird's bash was that it came against a man whose name is wonderfully similar to his: Rays pitcher Jalen Beeks. The Yankees' own network saw the potential from the showdown and seized it in a tweet.

Bird really made that ball take flight.

It wasn't the first bird battle between the two of them. Beeks and Bird faced off on Aug. 14, 2018, and on that occasion, it was Beeks who emerged victorious. He made Bird whiff and then induced a fly ball in his second at-bat. That surely put some egg on Bird's face, and this dinger will help peck away at Beeks' pristine record against him.

Now, we just need them on the Cardinals and Blue Jays to take this avian showdown to the next level ... or at least have Brett Gardner throw seeds at Beeks, too.
