Watch Rays prospect Brent Honeywell dominate batters with his diving screwball

Hector Santiago is the only pitcher that threw a screwball in the Major Leagues in 2016. According to Baseball Savant, he barely even tossed it -- throwing the backward-breaking curve only 31 times out of a total 3,169 pitches this year.
Meanwhile, Brent Honeywell not only lives on it as an important part of his four-pitch mix, but he's also a hard-throwing righty who can run his fastball up to 97 mph. That's not a common trait in screwballers. 
The Rays' No. 2 prospect showed off both of these fantastic pitches in two dominant innings during Saturday's Fall Stars Game. Facing the top prospects in the Arizona Fall League, Honeywell pitched two perfect innings and struck out five of the six batters he faced. 
Batters may have been unable to catch up to his heat, but, like a child at an quantum physics conference, batters were left in the dark when faced with his screwball. Honeywell dropped the pitch into the dirt against the A's No. 1 prospect, Franklin Barretto, who couldn't hold up:

With a showing like this coming on the heels of a 2016 season that saw the right-hander dominate Double-A with a 2.28 ERA in 59 1/3 IP, perhaps the Majors will see a second screwballer join the ranks sooner than later.
