Maikel Franco and Freddy Galvis teamed up to make a catch riddled with deception

Aside from pickoffs and the occasional hidden-ball trick, baseball is a pretty straightforward, even-handed game. A pitcher throws the ball, a batter hits the ball -- or doesn't, as the case may be -- and a fielder catches the ball.
But, during Thursday night's 6-4 win against the Mets, the Phillies channeled the sport of volleyball on a José Reyes popup.

Maikel Franco set up on the back of the infield dirt, presumably ready to make the catch for the final out of the 8th inning. While this occurred, Freddy Galvis stealthily moved onto the edge of the grass to make -- to transition to volleyball terms -- the kill behind Franco's decoy.
With the catch representing the third out of the inning, it is not clear what purpose was served by this act of misdirection. However, it is now a trick Franco and Galvis have in their collective back pocket for future deployment. Look out baseball, the Phillies have some tricks up their sleeve.
