Carlos Gomez issued a heartfelt apology to a Gatorade cooler for his frustrated destruction earlier in the week
On Wednesday, Rays outfielder Carlos Gomez thought he'd reached first base on a hit-by-pitch. But he hadn't, and wound up striking out in the same at-bat.
He didn't like that, and took out his frustration on an unsuspecting Gatorade cooler in the dugout:

Friday was a new day. A fresh start. A chance to make amends, to start anew and forge a healthy relationship with that dugout cooler ... which is precisely what Gomez did in the time leading up to Tampa Bay's 5-1 loss to the Mets:

As seen in the clip atop this post, Gomez continued his apology in the dugout to amusing lengths.
It's unlikely this was, in fact, the very same cooler that Gomez smashed with his bat in Miami. However, we'll allow it nonetheless, since -- at the very least -- coolers probably have their own hive consciousness ... or at least an internal Slack channel where they send messages to each other.
In that sense, Gomez was apologizing to all coolers, and that counts.
Despite his light-hearted apology session, Gomez feels remorse for the original dugout incident.
"It's part of the game, but I don't recommend any kid do that," he told MLB.com's Danny Knobler after the game. "It was just five seconds that I lost it. [With the sign], I was just showing the baseball world it's over."
So did the cooler accept the apology?
"Yeah, I gave it a few kisses."
