The Corpus Christi Hooks will wear Dia de los Muertos-style uniforms this Memorial Day
Minor League teams may have adopted almost every possible team name under the sun, but there is one subset that tends to get overlooked: Those that go bump in the night.
Other than the long-defunct Salem Witches and short-lived Casper Ghosts -- the Rockies' Casper, Wyo., affiliate that had the name from 2008-11 -- it's rare to find teams with logos featuring vampires, werewolves, goblins or ghouls. <o:p>
The Corpus Christi Hooks, the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, have addressed that as they will celebrate Dia De Los Hooks during their three-game series over Memorial Day weekend. <o:p>
Not only will the team be wearing sugar skull caps that feature the small 'CC Hooks' logo on the forehead, but even the numbers on the uniform will be made to look like bones:

Though the logo looks creepy, Dia De Los Muertos is actually a celebration of life as celebrants build festive altars to remember friends and relatives that have passed on. Since the Minor League season will be over before the actual holiday that typically runs between between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2 every year, and with Corpus Christi's annual festival attracting 35,000 people every year, it makes perfect sense for the team to celebrate the tradition on the baseball field. Even better, there will be sugar skulls, face painting and Dia De Los Muertos-inspired concessions for the weekend, too.
