An errant throw back to the pitcher accidently plunked Dansby Swanson
Since being called up to the Braves in mid-August, former No. 1 Draft pick and future adorable dog owner Dansby Swanson has adjusted nicely to the big leagues. He's slashed .301/.346/.425 over his first 21 games, he pulls off stuff like this at shortstop and he's done it all with truly 80-grade hair.
But, like any young player, he's still got some learning to do. Case in point: Monday's 12-7 win over the Marlins, in which Swanson learned one of baseball's most important lessons the hard way -- always keep your head on a swivel while the pitcher warms up.
Swanson ultimately left the game, but is expected to be back soon. MLB.com's Mark Bowman had more:
"It's unfortunate, but you don't stand behind anybody when they're playing catch," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "It got him good, too."
Swanson smiled and laughed as teammates had fun at his expense following the game, but the Braves said the rookie shortstop was unavailable for comment.
…
"I didn't see it, but I heard it," Freeman said with a smile. "Hopefully, he's OK."
Get well soon, Dansby.
