Mike Trout and the Angels played an absolutely tremendous prank on teammate Garrett Richards

With April Fool's Day approaching, the creators of Prank Academy on YouTube Red -- a channel that thrives on putting gullible people in awkward situations -- approached Mike Trout and asked him if the Angels had a good candidate for the show.
He immediately thought of Garrett Richards, his roommate and good friend.
"He believes everything," Trout said, laughing. "If you say something to him, he'll believe you."
Trout was right, though, the ensuing scenario was well-orchestrated:

It played out at Sapporo, a Japanese restaurant in Scottsdale. Richards, Trout, Jered Weaver, Kole Calhoun and C.J. Cron were seated for dinner when a female fan approached the group and asked for advice on how to break up with her boyfriend.
Richards was by far the most outspoken on the topic, saying it's best to "give it to him straight" and to end it abruptly.
Moments later, a man approached the players' table with news that he was going to propose to his girlfriend and that she just so happened to be Richards' No. 1 fan. He asked Richards if he could deliver the engagement ring. The Angels right-hander obliged ... and you can click the video above to see what happened when he reached the table.
How did the whole prank come together?
All of Richards' teammates were in on it, tasked with egging him on to ensure that the plot went accordingly. Trout was mic'd up; the scene was shot with 10 cameras and an assortment of microphones hidden throughout the restaurant.

"They got me good," Richards said. "I thought it was funny. I'm a pretty easygoing guy. I think they picked me because I'm the one guy who will probably just go with the flow. Whatever's thrown at me, I'll just adapt to it. But it was definitely surprising. I was shocked. I had no idea the whole time. At the end, I was really, really surprised."
Richards knew right away this was Trout's brainchild.
"A hundred percent," he said. "There's no doubt. If you ask him anything like that, his first answer would be me; I guarantee it."
