Joe Girardi poked fun at himself after ALCS Game 1 for challenging a tag on Greg Bird

The Astros' 2-1 win over the Yankees in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series presented by Camping World left us with an introduction in what shapes up to be a fun ride. Dallas Keuchel was dominant as he tossed seven innings, striking out 10. The Houston defense was just as strong thanks to this Carlos Correa and Yuli Gurriel play. And of course, everything José Altuve did on Friday night must be noted.
Following the loss, Yankees skipper Joe Girardi spoke to the media and poked fun at himself over a play that was made at the plate when Greg Bird slid at home and was called out. Girardi and the Yanks challenged the play to get a better look at it. And while the call on the field was confirmed, Girardi had no problem admitting he was glad he called for a challenge.

"Well, we thought he was out," he said. "But God knows I'm not doing that again."
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the reasoning behind Girardi's facetious response, here's a quick recap:

During Game 2 of the AL Division Series presented by Doosan, the knob of Lonnie Chisenhall's bat was hit by a Chad Green fastball. It was ruled as a hit-by-pitch and Girardi did not challenge the play. The Yankees ended up falling to Cleveland, 9-8, in the 13-inning showdown.
On Friday night, with a bit of déjà vu, Girardi made sure he didn't repeat the same mistake on a call as close as this one.
It's nice to see he learned his lesson and is making sure he can poke fun at himself, even just a little bit.
