Marco Estrada almost accidentally got rid of Brett Gardner's 1,000th career hit

Thursday night's 12-2 Yankees win against the Blue Jays was a historic one for Brett Gardner. The 10-year veteran notched the 1,000th hit of his Major League career in the top of the fourth inning with a single right up the middle off Marco Estrada. He joined Matt Holliday with milestone hits on the Yankees this year, and also became the 41st player in franchise history to reach 1,000.
So understandably, Gardner wanted the souvenir. The only problem was that the Blue Jays did not realize the significance at first, but when they did, Estrada threw it out of play ...

... to the wrong dugout. 
While it would have been an amusing trick to pretend to keep using the ball, the Blue Jays got it back to the Yankees' dugout. At least Gardner will have a funny story to tell his children one day about that baseball on his trophy case.
