NBA No. 1 Draft pick Markelle Fultz trusted the process with his first pitch

When the Phillies' season concludes, the city's attention will turn across the street at the South Philly sports complex and onto the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft, Markelle Fultz, who will don the Sixers' red, white, and blue threads.
Fultz tossed out the first pitch of Monday's series finale against the Braves just a bit high after shaking off the Phanatic. It was the first time the 19-year-old from the University of Washington had been to Citizens Bank Park.

"For me to be a basketball player and to be able to be welcomed here on the baseball field -- I think it just shows the love that the Philly community has," Fultz told MLB.com.
Sixers fans have made their presence known throughout the season with sporadic "Trust the Process" chants raining from the upper deck. Fultz, who immediately embraced the Sixers rallying cry and get-worse-to-get-better path to becoming a contender, wasn't shocked. He was used to it.
"You won't be surprised, you can go anywhere. You can be at McDonalds, you can be walking down the street, you'll hear that," he said. "Anywhere you go in Philly you're going to hear that. [Joel] Embiid started that and, you've got to trust the process. It's something I'll say too."
And for those fans worried about the ankle injury he suffered during Summer League play, the rookie had words of reassurance.
"I've been working out lately getting strength back in my rehab and everything like that. My ankle's doing a lot better and I'm going to be fine."
Just days ago, he guaranteed a Sixers playoff appearance for the same reasons he so willingly adopted The Process' guiding light: He has begun to see it reap rewards, embodied by the talented, versatile and freakishly athletic core the Sixers have assembled.
"My confidence is high. It's nowhere near cockiness," Fultz said. "It's just me having confidence and believing in the team, believing what I can do, what the coaching staff can do. I think everybody on the team's goal is to make it to the playoffs this year and everybody believes that we can make it."
