This Rangers fan had her phone smashed by Prince Fielder's home run ball
While we can forever debate the "baseball glove or no baseball glove at a baseball game" discussion, we now have scientific proof of what you shouldn't try and catch a baseball with: Your cellphone. Hope, a Rangers fan from Conroe, Texas, found that out the hard way.
When Prince Fielder hit a home run in the bottom of the fourth inning during the Rangers' 5-3 win against the Astros, the ball came flying toward Hope. Only problem, was that her phone was in her her hand, which led to this:
While she said this was the first time it had ever happened to her, she did add, "I played softball all my life and it's not the first time I've been hit by a softball. Baseball's not too different."
Unfortunately for Hope, when the ball smashed her phone, it didn't drop into her lap. Rather, it bounced a few rows back where another fan grabbed it. While it may be too late for the phone to be saved, the Rangers did come through, hooking up the smartphone-less fan with a new ball and a bag of swag. With some cajoling, she even ended up with the home run ball from a fan a little less than eager to give it up.
