Rod Carew got his Hall of Fame call in 1991 while sitting in front of his Time Magazine cover

Some people get their calls to the Hall of Fame while surrounded by their family -- such as Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza on Wednesday night. But sometimes, you're away from home or your closest friends and all you can do is accept the call with a giant magazine cover (with you on the front) behind you.
Rod Carew did such a thing when he was elected into Cooperstown on Jan. 8, 1991. He was at his baseball academy in Placentia, Calif., and answered the phone with his 1977 Time Magazine cover sitting behind his head. It also read "Baseball's Best Hitter." You go, Rod Carew.
The infielder, who amassed more than 3,000 hits and seven batting titles, was elected that year along with Ferguson Jenkins and Gaylord Perry.
