Bill Lee is running for governor of Vermont, and his nickname made it onto the ballot
Imagine for a moment that you're a resident of the great state of Vermont (if you're already a Vermonter, just be yourself). Picture yourself heading to the polls on Nov. 8, ready to cast your vote for governor. Maybe you're going to vote for Republican Phil Scott, or Democrat Sue Minter. Or maybe, just maybe, you're going to vote for …

That's right, "Spaceman" Bill Lee is running for political office. Not Accountant Bill Lee or Lawyer Bill Lee -- the one and only former Red Sox and Expos pitcher Bill Lee.
It's not particularly surprising that he's on the ballot. Many political candidates publish autobiographies during their campaigns, and a biopic called "Spaceman," starring Josh Duhamel as Lee, was released in August of this year. That's basically the same thing, right? And it's not like he's inexperienced: In 1988, Lee ran for president … on the Canadian Rhinoceros Party's ticket, best known for promising to repeal the law of gravity.
He's also happy to espouse his political philosophy in baseball terms. From the Burlington Free Press:
"Everybody knows I don't believe in strikeouts. They're fascist," Lee said. "I believe in ground balls, they're more democratic. Everybody gets to play."
He's also selling himself as an outside-the-box candidate. After showing up to a debate in September in a tropical shirt, he explained the beauty of his outsider allure. From Vermont Public Radio:
"And I may be out of the box," Lee said. "But out of the box is good. When you're out of the box you can see the ridges, you can see the trees, which are alive. You can see everything that's alive out there."
